Job Title: Assistant Purchaser – Commercial Construction

Location: Brea, CA

Position Overview

A well-established commercial construction company is seeking an organized and detail-oriented Assistant Purchaser to support procurement activities for ongoing construction projects. This role assists with purchasing materials, equipment, and services while maintaining accurate records, supporting vendor relationships, and ensuring timely deliveries to meet project schedules.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with purchasing materials, equipment, and supplies for commercial construction projects
  • Prepare and issue purchase orders in accordance with project requirements and budgets
  • Track material orders, deliveries, and backorders to ensure jobsite schedules are met
  • Coordinate with Project Managers, Superintendents, and vendors regarding material needs
  • Maintain accurate purchasing records, pricing, and vendor documentation
  • Assist with invoice review and matching against purchase orders and delivery tickets
  • Communicate with suppliers to resolve pricing discrepancies or delivery issues
  • Support vendor sourcing and maintain supplier relationships
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and project specifications

Qualifications

  • 1–3 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, or construction administration preferred
  • Prior experience in commercial construction or related industry strongly preferred
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and purchasing or ERP software
  • Ability to read basic construction plans and specifications is a plus
  • Detail-oriented with strong follow-through skills
