Job Description

Confidential Opportunity | General Counsel Attorney (Transactional)

Agoura Hills, CA | Hybrid Flexibility | $150,000+ DOE + Quarterly Bonuses

Are you looking for a transactional practice where you can become a trusted advisor, build lasting client relationships, and enjoy a healthy balance between sophisticated legal work and quality of life?

A highly respected California law firm is seeking a General Counsel Attorney to join its growing Community Association practice. This role is ideal for an attorney who enjoys counseling clients, solving complex legal issues, and serving as a strategic business partner rather than spending every day in litigation.

Whether you have experience in HOA law or come from a background in real estate, business, corporate, municipal, or advisory law, this firm is committed to providing the mentorship and training needed to become an expert in this specialized and growing practice area.

What You'll Do

As General Counsel, you'll serve as the primary legal advisor to homeowners associations and property management companies, helping clients navigate governance, compliance, and operational matters.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Advising boards of directors and community managers on a wide variety of legal issues
  • Reviewing and revising governing documents, including CC&Rs, bylaws, rules, and operating policies
  • Providing practical guidance regarding governance, elections, enforcement, and risk management
  • Drafting legal opinions, resolutions, correspondence, and advisory memoranda
  • Interpreting California statutes, including the Davis-Stirling Act
  • Attending board meetings (virtual and in person) to provide legal guidance
  • Collaborating with the firm's litigation and collections teams when disputes require additional legal support
  • Building long-term client relationships while serving as a trusted legal resource

What We're Looking For

  • Active California Bar license in good standing
  • 3+ years of transactional or advisory legal experience
  • Background in real estate, corporate, business, municipal, land use, or related practice areas strongly encouraged
  • HOA or Community Association experience is a plus—but not required
  • Excellent legal writing, communication, and analytical skills
  • Comfortable advising clients and presenting in boardroom settings
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and solutions-focused
  • Someone who enjoys developing long-term client relationships and acting as a trusted advisor

Why This Opportunity Stands Out

  • Starting salary of $150,000+ DOE
  • Quarterly production bonuses
  • Hybrid schedule available (2–3 remote days per week based on commute)
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision benefits
  • 401(k) with employer contribution
  • Paid vacation, holidays, and sick leave
  • CLE reimbursement and ongoing professional development
  • Collaborative team environment with experienced mentors
  • Opportunity to build a niche expertise in a stable, recession-resistant practice area

This is an outstanding opportunity for an attorney looking to transition into a sophisticated advisory role where you'll enjoy meaningful client interaction, long-term career growth, and a firm that is invested in your professional development.
