The Quality Assurance Supervisor oversees the daily operations of the quality assurance team, ensuring that food products meet established safety, quality, and regulatory standards. This role includes managing QA technicians, monitoring food safety and quality processes, and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership

  • Supervise, mentor, and train QA technicians, ensuring they follow established quality standards and best practices in food safety.

Product Quality Assurance

  • Oversee inspection, testing, and monitoring of in-process products and finished goods to ensure compliance with product specifications and quality standards.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure all QA activities comply with industry regulations (e.g., FDA, SQF, FSMA) and company policies.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant food safety regulations.

HACCP & Food Safety Oversight

  • Ensure the implementation and adherence to HACCP systems.
  • Monitor critical control points (e.g., metal detectors) and corrective actions to mitigate potential hazards.

Internal Audits & Inspections

  • Lead internal quality audits and inspections.
  • Prepare for external audits conducted by regulatory agencies or certification bodies.

Non-Conformance & Corrective Action

  • Investigate product quality issues, conduct root cause analysis, and coordinate corrective actions for production non-conformances.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Ensure proper documentation of quality control results, corrective actions, inspections, and audits.
  • Generate reports for upper management and regulatory authorities.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities for improvements related to product quality, efficiency, and waste reduction.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with production, R&D, and operations.

Training & Development

  • Conduct ongoing training for the QA team on food safety, QA procedures, and new regulations.
  • Ensure staff are well-versed in SOPs and GMPs.

 

Education

  • High school diploma required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in food science, food technology, microbiology, chemistry, or related field preferred.

Experience

  • 3–5 years of quality assurance experience in the food manufacturing industry.
  • At least 1–2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.

Regulatory Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of FDA, SQF, FSMA, and GMPs.

Technical Proficiency

  • Familiarity with QA testing methods, laboratory equipment, and food safety management software.

Preferred Experience

  • Certifications in HACCP, SQF, or other food safety systems.
