Job Description

Position: Accounting Supervisor/Controller

 

Position Summary

To oversee all aspects of the agency Accounting Department. Ensure the accuracy of recording, verifying, consolidating, and entering transactions. Train and supervise all Accounting Staff including remote Accounting Technicians. Work with management to build effective accounting procedures and efficient workflows within the entire agency. Demonstrate proficiency in finance with a solid understanding of GAAP in order to keep an organized and functional department within a growing organization.

Job Responsibilities

  • Maximize return on financial assets by implementing and maintaining financial policies, procedures, controls, and reporting systems
  • Provide status of financial condition by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data.
  • Maintain financial staff by coaching, training, and disciplining employees
  • Protect operations by keeping financial information and plans confidential
  • Develop and prepare consolidated financial reporting package containing a statement of financial position and statement of activities (actual compared to budget) for review by Executive Management
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements with operating, revenue, expenses and summary report of all program activities and account balances for review by CEO and CFO Consultant
  • Manage general ledger, reconcile account balances, including cash, accounts receivable and accounts payable monthly
  • Work in conjunction with CFO Consultant on case-by-case assignments
  • Process month end, year-end closings
  • Agency Payroll (Semi-Monthly)
  • Oversee and ensure accurate agent commissions (Monthly)
  • Manage Premium Payables

Qualifications/Skills

  • Minimum 5-10 years of experience in accounting/finance with at least 2 years in a Senior/Supervisory role
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance Required
  • CPA, Master’s degree in accounting, or MBA preferred
  • Insurance Industry Accounting preferred
  • Applied EPIC Accounting experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP
  • Excellent reporting, communication, and computer skills
  • Strong organizational and planning skills; ability to manage multiple projects effectively and take personal responsibility for their completion; set priorities, stay focused, and meet key milestones
  • Advanced accounting software and Microsoft Suite skills
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Strong manner of professionalism and ethics
