Fire Sprinkler Designer
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Fire Sprinkler Designer with 5+ years of experience designing fire protection systems for commercial, industrial, multifamily, and other building projects. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of NFPA standards, hydraulic calculations, fire sprinkler codes, and AutoCAD/Revit-based design. This position will be responsible for developing accurate, code-compliant fire sprinkler plans from initial concept through final design and approval.
Responsibilities
Design and prepare fire sprinkler system drawings for commercial, industrial, multifamily, healthcare, educational, and other building projects.
Develop detailed shop drawings, layouts, riser diagrams, details, and hydraulic calculations.
Interpret architectural, structural, mechanical, and MEP drawings to coordinate sprinkler system designs.
Perform hydraulic calculations and ensure systems meet applicable NFPA standards and local fire codes.
Prepare submittal packages for AHJs, architects, engineers, and general contractors.
Coordinate designs with project managers, field personnel, engineers, contractors, and other trades.
Review project specifications and identify design requirements, conflicts, and potential issues.
Revise drawings based on field conditions, RFI responses, engineer/AHJ comments, and project changes.
Assist with material takeoffs and equipment selection as needed.
Maintain accurate project documentation and meet established project schedules.
Stay current with changes to NFPA standards, building codes, and industry requirements.
Provide technical support to project managers and installation teams when needed.
Qualifications
5+ years of experience designing fire sprinkler systems.
Strong knowledge of NFPA 13 and familiarity with NFPA 13R, 13D, 20, 24, and other applicable standards.
Experience with hydraulic calculations and fire protection system design.
Proficiency with AutoCAD; Revit experience is a plus.
Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical plans.
Knowledge of applicable building, fire, and life-safety codes.
Strong attention to detail and ability to identify design conflicts.
Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
NICET certification is preferred but not required.
Experience with a fire sprinkler contractor, engineering firm, or fire protection company preferred.
