Estimating Manager - Structural Steel 

A leading structural steel fabricator is seeking an experienced Estimating Manager to lead and oversee our estimating department. This leadership role is central to our preconstruction process, ensuring the delivery of accurate, competitive, and well-structured project budgets and estimates.

As the Estimating Manager, you’ll work closely with the Sales and Project Management teams to manage the full estimating lifecycle. You’ll be responsible for the development of processes, team management, and continual improvement of tools and techniques used in estimating.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage estimating personnel, workload, and scheduling to meet bid deadlines

  • Assign Lead Estimators for bids and change orders and oversee their output

  • Review project documents (drawings, specs, schedules) to ensure comprehensive and accurate scoping

  • Prepare conceptual budgets using $/SF, $/Ton, etc.

  • Oversee bid proposals, including detailed exclusions, clarifications, and final recap reviews

  • Analyze cost trends, alternate methods, and materials for value engineering

  • Ensure smooth turnover from estimating to project management upon award

  • Support project management with change order pricing, sublet budgets, and negotiation assistance


Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field, or equivalent work experience

  • Minimum of 10 years in estimating or within the structural steel industry

  • Expertise in construction math and quantity takeoff methods

  • Proficiency in estimating and modeling software including BlueBeam, Tekla PowerFab, and Tekla Models

  • Strong working knowledge of MS Excel, Teams, and Word

  • Proven leadership ability with experience motivating and managing teams

  • Excellent organizational, communication, and analytical skills

  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet strict deadlines

  • Experience with both hard bid and conceptual estimating for a range of delivery methods (Design-Build, Design-Assist, etc.)
