Department: Machining / Manufacturing
Schedule: 1st Shift
Reports To: Plant Manager / Operations Manager
Employment Type: Full-Time

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced CNC Machining Supervisor to lead our first-shift machining operation. This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for directing daily production, developing machinists, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring the department meets safety, productivity, delivery, and efficiency goals.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in CNC machining, understands machining processes and equipment, and has demonstrated the ability to lead a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise first-shift CNC machining operations and personnel.
  • Coordinate daily production schedules and ensure customer requirements are met.
  • Monitor production performance, efficiency, scrap, downtime, and quality.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, GD&T, and CNC programs.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to CNC machinists and operators.
  • Work closely with programming, engineering, quality, maintenance, and production planning teams.
  • Ensure machines are properly set up and operating within established standards.
  • Assist with tooling selection, setup, offsets, feeds, speeds, and process improvements.
  • Train, coach, and develop machinists and machine operators.
  • Establish accountability for attendance, productivity, quality, and safe work practices.
  • Identify bottlenecks and implement continuous-improvement opportunities.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation, production records, and quality requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with company safety policies and OSHA requirements.
  • Support preventive maintenance and communicate equipment issues to maintenance.
  • Help establish and maintain standardized work instructions and operating procedures.
  • Promote a culture of teamwork, accountability, quality, and continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of CNC machining experience, preferably in a production manufacturing environment.
  • Previous supervisory or lead experience in a machining environment.
  • Strong understanding of CNC mills, lathes, or other CNC equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.
  • Experience with CNC setup, tooling, offsets, inspection, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong understanding of machining processes and production flow.
  • Ability to effectively lead, coach, and hold employees accountable.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, and Operations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with CNC programming.
  • Experience with Mastercam, Fanuc, Haas, Mazak, Okuma, or similar systems.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, or continuous improvement.
  • Knowledge of SPC and statistical process control.
  • Experience working in a high-mix or low-to-medium-volume machining environment.
  • Technical degree, machining certificate, or equivalent hands-on experience.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for more than someone who can simply manage a schedule. The successful candidate will be a working machining leader who understands what happens on the shop floor and can earn the respect of experienced machinists.

You should be comfortable getting involved when a machine goes down, a setup isn't working, a quality issue develops, or production falls behind. At the same time, you'll be responsible for developing your team and creating an environment where people take ownership of their work.

U.S. Citizenship Requirement: Due to applicable contractual and/or regulatory requirements, this position requires U.S. citizenship. Candidates must be able to provide appropriate documentation verifying eligibility.
