Vice President of Safety

A long-standing and highly respected Chicago-based general contractor is seeking a Vice President of Safety to join their executive leadership team.

This is not a ceremonial title. This is a true seat at the table.

This individual will play a critical role in shaping company-wide strategy, influencing operational decisions, and driving a proactive safety culture across a diverse portfolio of complex commercial construction projects. The right leader will have both the credibility in the field and the presence in the boardroom to elevate safety from a function to a competitive advantage.

What You’ll Do:

• Partner directly with executive leadership to embed safety into the core business strategy

• Lead and evolve a company-wide safety program that prioritizes prevention, accountability, and continuous improvement

• Influence operations at every level—from field teams to senior leadership—ensuring safety is integrated into how work gets done, not treated as a checkbox

• Build, mentor, and scale a high-performing safety team

• Drive consistency across projects while adapting to the unique challenges of each jobsite

• Serve as a visible, trusted leader across the organization, with a strong presence in the field

• Proven experience leading safety for a commercial general contractor or construction firm

• Deep understanding of construction operations and the realities of the field
