We are working with a client company seeking a Senior Product Development Engineer near Davenport, Iowa
Core Engineering Duties
- Design custom positioners & automation equipment
- Engineers help create headstock/tailstock positioners and lifting systems tailored to customer welding and assembly applications.
- Mechanical design & CAD modeling
- Develop layouts, structural designs, and motion systems for equipment that lifts, rotates, and holds large weldments safely.
- Application engineering with customers
- Work with customers to customize solutions for different industries like construction, mining, aerospace, and heavy equipment.
- Automation & controls integration
- Specify motors, drives, gearboxes, PLCs, sensors, and motion-control components used in robotic weld cells and positioners.
- Create engineering drawings & BOMs
- Produce fabrication drawings and bills of materials for machining, welding, and assembly.
- Support manufacturing & assembly
- Work with fabrication teams to troubleshoot builds and improve ergonomics, productivity, and safety.
- Additional Likely Responsibilities Testing and validation of lifting/rotating systems
- Continuous improvement of weld quality and throughput
- Collaboration with sales on technical proposals
- On-site or remote customer support for installation/start-up
- Cost reduction and standardization of designs
What the Role Looks Like Day-to-Day
- Reviewing customer prints and determining how to fixture or position parts
- Designing heavy weldment frames and rotating mechanisms
- Selecting servo/gearbox packages and structural steel sizes
- Working with welders and machinists on manufacturability
- Supporting automation integration (robotic welding cells, cobots, etc.)
