Job Title: Construction Assistant Accountant

Job Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Construction Assistant Accountant to support our finance team in managing day-to-day accounting operations within a construction environment. The ideal candidate will have a foundational knowledge of accounting principles, experience with construction-related financial processes, and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with accounts payable and receivable processes, including invoice coding, data entry, and payment processing

  • Prepare and reconcile project cost reports and job costing allocations

  • Support payroll processing by collecting and reviewing timesheets and ensuring accuracy of job codes

  • Maintain accurate and organized financial records, including vendor contracts, purchase orders, and subcontractor documentation

  • Assist in monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closings

  • Monitor and track construction budgets and report variances

  • Reconcile bank statements and assist in maintaining the general ledger

  • Support compliance with tax filings and regulatory requirements

  • Communicate with project managers, vendors, and subcontractors regarding financial issues and documentation

  • Perform other administrative and accounting duties as assigned


Qualifications:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

  • 1–3 years of accounting experience, preferably in the construction industry

  • Familiarity with construction accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage 300, Procore, or Viewpoint) is a plus

  • Strong Excel skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills

  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy


Preferred Skills:

  • Understanding of AIA billing 

  • Knowledge of WIP (Work-in-Progress) reporting

  • Familiarity with union/non-union payroll requirements
