Insurance Coverage / Bad Faith Defense Litigator (5+ Years)

Kansas City, MO (Preferred) | St. Louis, MO (Possible) | Hybrid

A well-established litigation boutique with approximately 200 employees is seeking an experienced Insurance Coverage / Bad Faith Defense Attorney to join its Kansas City office. Candidates in St. Louis will also be considered. This is a hybrid position offering significant responsibility, autonomy, and long-term growth.

Position Overview

The firm is seeking an attorney with 5+ years of experience handling insurance coverage and bad faith litigation defense matters who can independently manage complex cases while collaborating with a sophisticated litigation team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently manage files through all stages of litigation, both autonomously and as part of a case team

  • Conduct fact investigations

  • Handle document productions and discovery

  • Prepare witnesses for depositions

  • Take and defend depositions

  • Draft pleadings, briefs, and motions

  • Review and analyze insurance policies, contracts, and related legal documents

  • Prepare detailed insurance coverage opinions

  • Prepare for and attend court hearings

  • Trial preparation and attendance

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of insurance coverage and bad faith litigation defense experience

  • Licensed in Missouri and Illinois or Kansas

  • Strong experience with insurance policy review and coverage analysis

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to work independently on complex matters

  • Strong legal research and writing skills
