Commercial Litigation Attorney

Chicago, IL | Hybrid | 6+ Years Experience
Compensation: $125,000–$225,000 DOE

We are seeking an experienced Commercial Litigation Attorney to join a sophisticated litigation practice handling complex business disputes in state and federal courts.

This is a hands-on litigation role for an attorney who has several years of solid commercial litigation experience and is comfortable taking meaningful ownership of their matters. The practice represents individuals, privately held businesses, financial institutions, and other business clients across a broad range of disputes.

The Practice

Matters may include:

• Breach of contract and other complex business disputes
• Shareholder, member, and ownership disputes
• Business torts and related commercial claims
• Creditor rights and enforcement matters
• Pre-litigation disputes, negotiations, and risk assessment
• State and federal court litigation
• Appellate matters

The Role

Attorneys are expected to take an active role throughout the lifecycle of their cases, including:

• Managing commercial litigation matters from complaint through resolution
• Drafting pleadings, dispositive motions, briefs, and other substantive filings
• Handling written discovery and document production
• Taking and defending depositions
• Appearing for hearings and oral arguments
• Developing case strategy and advising clients on litigation risk
• Negotiating settlements and drafting settlement-related agreements
• Preparing matters for trial and participating in trial proceedings
• Working directly with clients, opposing counsel, and the courts

Qualifications

• 6+ years of litigation experience
• Strong commercial and/or business litigation background
• Ability to independently manage matters and deadlines
• Meaningful deposition, motion practice, and courtroom experience
• Strong legal research, writing, and advocacy skills
• Active Illinois Bar license required
• Wisconsin or additional state admissions are a plus
