CAD Designer / CAD Drafter – Oil & Gas Surveying

Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented CAD Designer / CAD Drafter to support our oil and gas surveying team. This individual will transform field survey data into accurate, high-quality drawings, plats, maps, legal exhibits, and construction documents used for drilling operations, pipeline projects, rights-of-way, and energy infrastructure.

The ideal candidate has experience working with survey data, understands oil and gas projects, and is proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D, Carlson Survey, or similar CAD software. This position works closely with Registered Professional Land Surveyors (RPLS), field crews, project managers, engineers, and clients to ensure all deliverables meet company and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare survey plats, maps, and construction drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D, Carlson Survey, or similar software
  • Process field data collected by GPS, Total Stations, UAVs, and LiDAR
  • Draft boundary surveys, topographic surveys, ALTA surveys, and legal exhibits
  • Create pipeline alignment sheets and centerline drawings
  • Prepare well location plats and drilling unit exhibits
  • Draft right-of-way and easement exhibits
  • Create legal descriptions from survey data
  • Develop as-built drawings for completed construction projects
  • Maintain drawing standards and quality control procedures
  • Revise drawings based on client and project manager feedback
  • Coordinate with survey crews to resolve field questions and data discrepancies
  • Organize project files and maintain accurate electronic records
  • Ensure all CAD deliverables meet client specifications and company standards

Oil & Gas Specific Responsibilities

  • Draft pipeline route surveys
  • Prepare well pad location drawings
  • Create drilling plats
  • Produce lease exhibits and tract maps
  • Prepare compressor station and facility layouts
  • Draft right-of-way acquisition exhibits
  • Create construction staking plans
  • Prepare utility crossing exhibits
  • Generate pipeline crossing details
  • Support permitting and regulatory documentation
  • Assist with renewable energy and transmission line survey projects as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or technical certification in Drafting, Surveying, Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred
  • 5+ years of CAD drafting experience
  • Experience supporting land surveying or civil engineering projects
  • Strong understanding of surveying principles and coordinating systems
  • Ability to read deeds, plats, and legal descriptions
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities
