Job Description

Project Manager / Estimator – Excavation & Underground Utilities

A well-established and growing civil construction contractor is seeking a highly skilled Project Manager/Estimator with proven experience in excavation and underground utility work. This is a great opportunity for someone who is detail-oriented, organized, and confident managing projects from concept through completion.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare accurate estimates and bids for excavation and utility projects (water, sewer, storm drain, etc.)

  • Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and geotechnical reports

  • Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes

  • Develop project budgets, schedules, and timelines

  • Lead project kickoff meetings and oversee job progress from pre-construction to closeout

  • Coordinate with field superintendents, subcontractors, and clients to ensure quality, safety, and timely completion

  • Monitor job costs and provide regular reports on financial and schedule status

  • Manage change orders, RFIs, and all related documentation

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in heavy civil construction, with a focus on excavation and underground utilities

  • Strong estimating background with hands-on experience preparing takeoffs and bid packages

  • Proven project management skills with the ability to manage multiple jobs simultaneously

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills

  • Proficiency in construction management software (e.g., B2W, HCSS, Bluebeam, Procore, or similar)

  • Ability to build strong relationships with clients, vendors, and team members

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience)
