Tax Manager

Location: Northbrook, IL

Overview

A fast-growing boutique CPA firm serving Chicago and the North Shore is seeking an experienced Tax Manager in Northbrook for a high-impact, partner-track role. You will work directly with the firm’s partners, lead and mentor a team and build lasting client relationships. The firm offers a hybrid work environment and a genuine focus on work/life balance.

Responsibilities

• Review tax returns prepared by junior and senior staff for accuracy, compliance and quality (primary function)
• Prepare individual and business tax returns ranging from straightforward to complex
• Manage and mentor a team of junior and senior preparers
• Support partners in client management, tax consulting and firm operations
• Consult directly with clients on tax planning and projections
• Serve as a point of escalation for complex tax issues
• Use AI tools and current tax technology to drive team efficiency

Qualifications

• CPA license required
• 5-8 years of tax experience in a public accounting firm
• Strong review skills and the ability to manage staff and client relationships
• Proficiency in CCH Axcess, UltraTax or similar tax software; QuickBooks experience
• Excellent communication and client skills
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field
• Interest in a long-term home with a clear path to partnership
