Safety Director – Structural Steel Construction

Commercial & Industrial Projects | Leadership Opportunity

An established and growing Structural Steel Construction contractor specializing in commercial and industrial structural steel erection is seeking a Safety Director to lead the company’s overall safety program and drive safety excellence across multiple projects and regions.

This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for a safety professional who understands steel construction, field operations, client relations, and building a strong safety culture. We are seeking a hands-on leader who aligns with our core values of Integrity, Safety, Customer Commitment, Mentorship, Professionalism, and Continuous Improvement.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the company’s overall safety program and safety performance

  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve safety policies, procedures, and training programs

  • Generate and manage Site Specific Safety Plans (SSSPs) for active projects

  • Recruit, mentor, and manage Site Safety Representatives

  • Conduct weekly site safety audits and field inspections to ensure compliance with project safety requirements

  • Deliver and oversee safety orientation, training, and ongoing education for employees, subcontractors, and visitors

  • Maintain detailed records of audits, training, inspections, incidents, and corrective actions

  • Investigate accidents, near misses, and incidents; lead root cause analysis and implement company-wide corrective actions

  • Manage incident and injury case documentation and follow-up

  • Build strong working relationships with client safety representatives, project teams, and field leadership

  • Partner with operations, project management, superintendents, and foremen to proactively identify and mitigate jobsite hazards

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of construction safety experience or a degree in Construction Technology, Safety, or a related field

  • OSHA 500 certification OR CSHP certification required

  • Strong knowledge of steel construction safety, OSHA regulations, and industry best practices

  • Experience with hazard recognition, mitigation planning, incident investigation, and corrective action management

  • Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines in fast-paced environments

  • Strong communication, leadership, organizational, and relationship-building skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Project

Preferred

  • Experience supporting commercial, industrial, or heavy construction projects

  • Experience managing site safety personnel across multiple jobsites

  • Background working directly with clients, owners, and third-party safety representatives

Compensation & Benefits

  • $120,000 – $160,000 DOE + Performance Bonus
