A respected mid-size Houston-based law firm is seeking a fully remote Title Opinion Attorney with experience in drafting oil & gas title opinions—specifically within the Bakken Region (North Dakota, Montana, etc.). This is a high-impact role for an attorney who can step in day one and independently handle title opinion drafting related to the Permian (TX/NM) and Bakken (ND/WY/MT) basins.
This is not a training role—prior experience drafting oil & gas title opinions in the Bakken is required. Real estate title experience without oil & gas title experience will not be considered.
Who We're Looking For:
3–15 years of direct experience drafting oil & gas title opinions
Must have worked in a law firm setting—in-house land or landman-only experience not sufficient
Familiarity with JOAs, PSAs, and other core oil & gas transactional documents
Experience with E&P transactional work preferred
Must be barred in at least one U.S. state (TX bar is not required)
Able to work fully remote and hit the ground running with minimal oversight
Job Responsibilities:
Draft and review oil & gas title opinions (primarily in the Bakken and Permian regions)
Provide legal counsel on transactional oil & gas matters
Work independently and efficiently within a flexible billing structure
Collaborate remotely with a national team of energy attorneys
Optional client management and business development pathways
Compensation & Benefits:
$175,000–$185,000 base salary for 1,700 billable hours
$100–$110/hr for every hour billed above 1,700
15% origination credit on gross revenue from originated clients
Bonus opportunities for managing attorneys
Blue Cross PPO health plan
401(k) with 3% automatic contribution (no match required)
Set your own billable goals (1,500–2,000+) to match your lifestyle and ambition
Additional Notes:
We are especially interested in attorneys with Bakken-specific experience
Must have law firm title drafting experience—real estate or in-house only will not qualify
Attorneys requiring more than $185K for 1700 hours will not be a fit for this role
Location: Fully Remote (Firm based in Houston, TX) Schedule: Flexible; choose your billable goal Team: Work alongside 55+ attorneys, approximately 70% of whom are fully remote
To Apply: Submit your resume and a brief summary of your oil & gas title experience, including specific basins and jurisdictions you’ve worked in.
