Title: Civil Litigation Attorney
Location: Richmond or Fairfax, VA
Position Overview:
An award-winning law firm specializing in civil litigation is seeking a skilled Civil Litigation Attorney to join their dynamic team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a caseload of civil litigation matters from inception to resolution. This includes conducting legal research, drafting pleadings and motions, attending court hearings, negotiating settlements, and representing clients in mediations and trials. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical abilities, excellent communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
- Manage a caseload of civil litigation matters, including but not limited to contract disputes, employment matters, personal injury claims, and commercial litigation.
- Conduct legal research and analysis to develop case strategies and support arguments.
- Draft and file pleadings, motions, and other legal documents with the court.
- Prepare for and represent clients in court hearings, arbitrations, mediations, and trials.
- Communicate effectively with clients, opposing counsel, and other parties involved in the litigation process.
- Negotiate settlements and participate in alternative dispute resolution proceedings.
- Provide timely and thorough updates to clients regarding case developments and strategies.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the Virginia bar and in good standing.
- Minimum of 2-7 years of experience practicing civil litigation.
- Strong litigation skills, including proficiency in legal research, writing, and oral advocacy.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience representing clients in complex civil or commercial litigation matters.
- Trial experience, including first-chair trial experience.
- Experience with alternative dispute resolution methods, such as mediation and arbitration.
- Knowledge of specific industries or areas of law relevant to the firm's practice areas.
