Material Handler / Overhead Crane Operator
2nd Shift | 2:00 PM – 10:00 PM Pay: $25 – $30/hr
About the Role
We are seeking a dependable Material Handler / Overhead Crane Operator to support production operations in a fast-paced fabrication environment. This position plays a key role in keeping materials moving efficiently through production by loading, staging, and organizing steel plate and fabricated parts.
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on work, operating heavy equipment, and working in a team-oriented manufacturing setting.
Key Responsibilities
Load and unload steel plate to and from laser cutting and kinetic cutting tables
Operate overhead cranes (up to 10-ton capacity) to move steel plate from trucks, trailers, and staging areas
Collect cut parts from tables and transport them to designated staging or next-operation areas
Sort and organize plate remnants, placing usable material back into inventory and scrap in designated areas
Stage steel plate for upcoming production jobs to support efficient workflow
Operate forklifts to transport pallets, materials, and fabricated parts throughout the facility
Operate yard truck and trailer to move materials between buildings as required
Complete required ERP system transactions and material tracking
Use measuring tools and basic math skills to verify material quantities and dimensions
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment
Work closely with operators and supervisors to support production schedules
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
1+ year experience operating overhead cranes (2-ton capacity or greater)
Experience with rigging equipment such as hooks and lifting devices preferred
Experience operating forklifts or other material handling equipment
Basic computer skills and ability to complete transactions in an ERP system
Ability to read a tape measure and verify dimensions
Strong safety awareness and attention to detail
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand for extended periods during the shift
Frequent reaching, kneeling, and stepping on/off cutting tables
Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs
Regular use of cranes, forklifts, and material handling equipment
Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception
