 Bookkeeper / Accounting/Controller – Construction

We are working with a well-established construction company seeking a Bookkeeper / Controller to oversee day-to-day accounting operations and support the financial performance of the organization. 

About the Role:

This position will be responsible for managing full-cycle accounting functions within a construction environment, with a strong emphasis on job costing, payroll, and financial reporting. The role also includes supervising a small team and ensuring accurate and timely financial processes across multiple projects.

 Key Responsibilities:

• Supervise and support two accounting staff members

• Oversee and process weekly payroll, including certified payroll reporting

• Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable functions

• Handle multi-state payroll tax filings (940, 941)

• Perform monthly bank reconciliations

• Prepare monthly financial statements (Balance Sheet & Profit & Loss)

• Monitor and manage cash flow

• Maintain general ledger and journal entries, including depreciation

• Prepare Work in Progress (WIP) reports

• Support annual workers’ comp and insurance audits

• Track employee PTO (vacation/sick time)

• Complete monthly sales tax / gross receipts reporting

 Qualifications:

• 5+ years of bookkeeping/accounting experience in construction

• Strong understanding of job costing and WIP reporting

• Experience with certified payroll and prevailing wage projects

• Experience with construction accounting software (Foundation preferred) is a plus
