This position is ideal for an attorney with solid experience ready to take on greater responsibility in complex California employment law matters. You'll work closely with senior partners to defend employers across various industries.

Key Responsibilities

  • Litigation Management: Handle various aspects of employment litigation, including propounding and responding to discovery, drafting dispositive motions (summary judgment), and preparing for depositions and hearings in single-plaintiff and class action cases.
  • Client Advising: Counsel clients on day-to-day compliance issues concerning California wage and hour laws, leaves of absence, disciplinary actions, and terminations.
  • Research & Writing: Conduct comprehensive legal research and draft persuasive legal memoranda and briefs.
  • Billable Requirement: Maintain a competitive annual billable requirement of 1750 hours.

Why Join This Firm?

  • Hybrid Flexibility: Enjoy a predictable, flexible schedule that allows you to work from home every Monday and Friday. You'll collaborate in-person at the Oakland office Tuesday through Thursday.
  • Performance Bonuses: Earn monthly productive bonuses that directly reward your efficiency and billing success.
  • Clear Career Growth: Attorneys are eligible for partnership consideration after two years with the firm, provided performance and firm needs align. This is a chance to build a long-term future.
  • Bay Area Practice: Work on sophisticated legal challenges unique to the Northern California employment landscape.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience: 3 to 5 years of dedicated experience practicing Labor and Employment defense law is strongly preferred.
  • Education: A Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited Law School is required.
  • Bar Status: Active membership and good standing with the State Bar of California is a must.
  • Expertise: Solid working knowledge of federal and, most critically, California state employment statutes (e.g., PAGA, FEHA, CA Wage Orders).
  • Skills: Demonstrated ability to manage multiple litigation deadlines and communicate complex legal issues clearly to clients.

If you're a driven mid-level employment defense attorney seeking a firm in Oakland that offers significant opportunity and rewards high performance, we want to hear from you.
