Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: San Jose, CA
Salary: Up to $53/hour + Full Benefits
Schedule: Full-Time | MEP Design-Build | Union Contractor

A leading union-affiliated mechanical contractor is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support HVAC and plumbing design efforts across a wide range of commercial and institutional projects. With a strong reputation for high-quality, in-house design and seamless collaboration with construction teams, this firm offers long-term stability and opportunities for growth.

This role is ideal for candidates with a mechanical engineering background and 2+ years of experience in HVAC or plumbing system design.


Responsibilities

  • Support design and drafting of mechanical and plumbing systems from concept through construction

  • Assist with preparation of construction documents, submittals, and coordination drawings

  • Collaborate with project managers, drafters, and field personnel for constructability and accuracy

  • Work within AutoCAD and Revit for design and modeling

  • Participate in cross-discipline coordination efforts

  • Conduct site surveys and support field-related technical questions


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field

  • 2+ years of experience in mechanical or plumbing design for commercial buildings

  • E.I.T. certification required; P.E. preferred

  • Proficient in Revit and AutoCAD

  • Familiarity with union labor and design-build environments is a plus

  • Willing to relocate if the opportunity is a strong fit
