Traveling Project Manager – Structural Steel Erection

Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Traveling Project Manager to oversee large-scale structural steel erection projects across multiple locations. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record managing complex commercial steel erection jobs exceeding 5,000 tons or $5 million in value. This role requires strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills to effectively manage all aspects of field operations, safety, scheduling, and cost control.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage all phases of structural steel erection projects from planning through closeout

  • Oversee project schedules, budgets, and field operations to ensure quality and performance standards are met

  • Coordinate with general contractors, engineers, fabricators, and field crews

  • Monitor job progress, resolve field issues, and ensure compliance with project specifications and safety requirements

  • Provide leadership and guidance to field teams and subcontractors

  • Prepare project reports, progress updates, and documentation for management review

  • Travel to job sites as required to support and oversee active projects

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience managing large structural steel erection projects

  • Experience leading projects exceeding 5,000 tons or $5 million preferred

  • Strong background in commercial steel erection, including higher education, stadiums/arenas, data centers, and warehouse/distribution facilities

  • Excellent understanding of steel erection means and methods, rigging, and sequencing

  • Strong communication and organizational skills

  • Ability to travel extensively to project locations
