Job Description

The Traveling Retail Superintendent manages day-to-day construction activities for retail projects in various locations. This role requires frequent travel to job sites and strong leadership to coordinate subcontractors, vendors, and field staff.

Key Responsibilities

1. Project Oversight

  • Supervise on-site construction for retail stores (new builds, remodels, rollouts)
  • Ensure work aligns with plans, specs, and local building codes
  • Maintain project schedules and push for on-time completion

2. Team Coordination

  • Manage subcontractors, suppliers, and labor crews
  • Conduct daily site meetings and progress updates
  • Resolve conflicts or delays quickly

3. Quality Control

  • Inspect workmanship and materials
  • Ensure brand standards are met (important in retail chains)
  • Conduct punch walks and final inspections

4. Safety Compliance

  • Enforce OSHA and company safety policies
  • Conduct safety meetings and site audits
  • Address hazards immediately

5. Client & Stakeholder Communication

  • Act as the main on-site contact for clients and project managers
  • Provide status reports, updates, and issue tracking
  • Represent the company professionally across different locations

6. Travel Requirements

  • Travel frequently (often 75–100%)
  • Stay on-site for days or weeks depending on project scope
  • Work flexible hours, including nights/weekends (common in retail remodels)

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of construction experience (retail or commercial preferred)
  • Previous superintendent or foreman experience
  • Strong understanding of construction drawings and specifications
  • Knowledge of scheduling tools (e.g., Procore, MS Project)
  • OSHA certification (often required)
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel extensively
