Fleet Maintenance Supervisor
Position Summary for Fleet Maintenance Supervisor: The Shop Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the fleet maintenance shop, ensuring efficient, safe, and reliable maintenance and repair of equipment. This role requires a hands-on leader with strong technical expertise, operational background, and the ability to keep teams focused in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to balance supervising mechanics with performing technical work when needed to ensure equipment is ready for the next day’s operations.
Key Responsibilities for Fleet Maintenance Supervisor:
Plan, assign, and schedule repair work while monitoring performance and providing feedback to ensure timely and efficient completion.
Prepare daily shift handoff reports to communicate equipment status, ongoing tasks, and key updates.
Support and oversee evening shift operations to maximize repair windows and minimize downtime during daily operations.
Partner with Fleet Maintenance Manager to ensure equipment is operational and ready to meet route and operational requirements.
Provide technical guidance, training, and mentorship to fleet mechanics to strengthen skills in troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs.
Review repair orders, verify accuracy of work performed, and track labor and parts usage.
Oversee data entry and reporting in fleet maintenance software; analyze performance and recommend process improvements.
Travel to satellite shops and field locations as needed for diagnosis and repairs.
Ensure accurate documentation of delays, safety issues, and repair status at the end of each shift.
Promote and enforce safety policies, identifying and correcting potential hazards proactively.
Inspect work performed by employees and contractors to ensure compliance with standards.
Maintain shop security and verify that all equipment is safely secured at end of shift.
Supervisory Responsibilities for Fleet Maintenance Supervisor: Provide mentorship, guidance, and direction to mechanics, ensuring high-quality workmanship, safety compliance, and team development.
Qualifications for Fleet Maintenance Supervisor:
5+ years of fleet maintenance experience managing 100+ trucks.
3+ years of supervisory experience in a maintenance or shop environment.
Strong knowledge of diesel, electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems.
Proficiency in troubleshooting and diagnostics.
Understanding of applicable safety regulations and compliance standards.
Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and fleet management software.
Ability to train and mentor team members while leading by example.
Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
Commercial driving experience and/or CDL preferred.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
