Job Title: Hauling Operations Manager

Our client, a respected leader in the waste and recycling services industry, is seeking an experienced Hauling Operations Manager to oversee daily collection activities for commercial, industrial, and residential customers. With multiple service lines including front-load, rear-load, and roll-off operations, this position plays a vital role in delivering high-level service while maintaining operational and safety standards.
Position Summary:
The Hauling Operations Manager is responsible for leading and managing the day-to-day activities of the hauling division. This includes supervising route operations, dispatch, driver performance, container delivery/pick-up, and overall customer service. The role also plays a key part in implementing local market strategy, driving operational efficiency, and ensuring regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage and support a team of Operations Supervisors, Dispatchers, Drivers, and Helpers.
Monitor route efficiency, labor hours, and disposal costs to optimize productivity and profitability.
Lead safety and accident prevention programs to ensure a safe and productive environment.
Ensure consistent compliance with DOT, OSHA, local, state, and federal regulations.
Implement and oversee route management systems and productivity goals.
Serve as the escalation point for customer service issues and work to resolve them promptly.
Partner with internal teams to drive change management and continuous improvement initiatives.
Prepare and manage operational budgets, review expenses, and approve purchase orders.
Work closely with municipal contacts and regulatory agencies as needed.
Develop talent within the department through training, coaching, and performance reviews.
Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and operational excellence.
Requirements:
Minimum 4 years of supervisory experience, preferably in waste hauling or logistics.
Strong understanding of DOT, OSHA, and transportation regulations.
Experience managing commercial, residential, and roll-off operations.
Proven track record of managing teams, labor costs, and customer service performance.
Proficiency in route optimization software and Microsoft Office.
Strong communication, leadership, and conflict-resolution skills.
Ability to lead by example, set expectations, and motivate staff.
Valid CDL (Class A or B with air brake endorsement) is a plus, or ability to obtain within 6 months.
Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred in Business, Operations Management, or related field.
