Director of Fleet Maintenance
Position Summary
The Director of Fleet Maintenance is responsible for the oversight and coordination of all fleet maintenance activities across the organization. This includes managing the maintenance of on-highway and off-highway equipment, vehicles used in hauling operations, and heavy equipment at post-collection facilities. The role provides leadership and support to site-level maintenance managers and ensures standardization, compliance, and operational readiness across all facilities.
Essential Functions
- Set and monitor departmental goals aligned with company objectives; report performance and corrective actions to executive leadership
- Ensure all vehicles and equipment are operational, properly maintained, and available to meet daily service requirements
- Implement and oversee quality control standards and ensure integration of safety in all fleet operations
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal fleet regulations
- Oversee contractors and evaluate/approve major repairs and warranty work
- Manage equipment rebuilds and major repair programs, including lifecycle and cost analysis
- Establish and enforce fleet maintenance training programs for local teams
- Monitor and manage fleet reporting tools and ensure consistent use across all sites
- Coordinate with other departments to align maintenance projects with broader operational goals
- Ensure documentation of SOPs, budgets, and compliance plans are in place and current
- Conduct regular audits of parts inventory and enforce inventory control standards
- Ensure regulatory readiness, including BIT inspections
- Maintain compliance with all workplace safety, HAZMAT, and environmental regulationsRequired Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in on- and off-highway fleet maintenance
- 5+ years managing budgets and departmental P&Ls
- Strong computer proficiency (Microsoft Office and fleet maintenance systems)
- Valid driver’s license
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects across different sites
