Commercial Estimator / Chief Estimator
Location: Albuquerque, NM
Compensation: Estimator: $90,000–$120,000; Chief Estimator: $125,000–$165,000 annually, depending on experience
About the Opportunity
An established commercial general contractor is seeking an experienced Estimator or Chief Estimator with a diverse commercial construction background.
Strong local subcontractor and industry connections are required for consideration. Candidates should bring reliable budgeting and bid-development experience, with leadership responsibilities available for those qualified at the Chief Estimator level.
Responsibilities
Prepare conceptual budgets and detailed commercial construction estimates.
Review drawings, specifications, bid requirements, and project scopes.
Perform quantity takeoffs and develop cost analyses across multiple trades.
Solicit, evaluate, and level subcontractor proposals.
Identify scope gaps, exclusions, and project risks.
Develop value engineering recommendations.
Maintain local subcontractor relationships and historical cost data.
Collaborate with project teams and design partners throughout preconstruction.
Support bid submissions and project handoff.
Chief-level candidates will lead estimating reviews, coordinate workloads, and mentor staff.
Qualifications
Demonstrated commercial construction estimating experience.
Experience across diverse commercial project types.
Strong Albuquerque-area subcontractor relationships and market knowledge.
Proficiency in takeoffs, conceptual budgeting, bid analysis, and scope review.
Ability to interpret construction documents.
Strong analytical and communication skills.
Chief-level candidates must demonstrate estimating leadership and accountability for final estimate quality.
