Associate Attorney – General Liability & Insurance Coverage Defense
GPAC has partnered with an established and growing law firm seeking an Associate Attorney to join its Houston-based litigation team with a focus on general liability and insurance coverage defense matters. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney looking to build upon their litigation experience while working on sophisticated and high-exposure matters in a collaborative environment.
The ideal candidate will have experience handling insurance defense litigation, coverage analysis, and general liability matters. Attorneys who are motivated, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing cases in a fast-paced practice are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
- Handle a variety of litigation and insurance coverage matters, including:
- General liability defense
- Insurance coverage disputes
- Personal injury and premises liability claims
- Property damage matters
- Analyze insurance policies and provide coverage opinions and recommendations
- Draft pleadings, motions, coverage position letters, and discovery responses
- Conduct legal research and prepare litigation strategy recommendations
- Take and defend depositions and attend hearings, mediations, and court appearances
- Manage cases from inception through resolution
- Assist with trial preparation and settlement negotiations
- Communicate directly with clients, carriers, and claims professionals regarding case strategy and exposure
- Collaborate closely with attorneys and support staff to deliver strong client service
Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school
- Active admission to the Texas Bar
- 2+ years of experience in insurance defense, insurance coverage, general liability, or civil litigation
- Experience analyzing insurance policies and handling coverage-related issues preferred
- Strong legal writing, analytical, and communication skills
- Ability to independently manage a litigation caseload
- Deposition, hearing, and motion practice experience preferred
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
