Heavy Civil Estimator | Charlotte, NC

Salary: $125,000–$150,000+ depending on experience

A well-established heavy civil contractor is seeking an experienced Estimator to join its Charlotte team. This role is for someone who understands how infrastructure projects are built and can turn plans, field production, and subcontractor pricing into a competitive, well-supported bid.

You’ll work on complex heavy civil pursuits involving work such as highways, bridges, earthwork, and utilities. You’ll collaborate with operations and leadership throughout the bid process, from the first review of the documents through final pricing and project handoff.

What you’ll do

• Lead or contribute to estimates for complex heavy civil construction projects.
• Review plans, specifications, schedules, permits, and contract requirements to understand the full scope of work.
• Perform quantity takeoffs and develop production-based costs for crews, equipment, materials, and subcontracted work.
• Evaluate construction methods, site conditions, schedules, and risks that could affect pricing.
• Request, review, and compare supplier and subcontractor quotes.
• Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits as needed.
• Help prepare bid packages, participate in estimate reviews, and support final bid closeout.
• Share estimating assumptions and project risks with the operations team when a project is awarded.

What we’re looking for

• 5+ years of heavy civil construction experience, including meaningful estimating experience.
• The ability to lead an estimate and bid complex heavy civil work.
• A strong understanding of construction methods, crew production, equipment, and cost development.
• Experience reading civil drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
• Strong organization and communication skills, especially when managing bid deadlines.
• HCSS HeavyBid experience preferred.
