Associate Attorney – Public School Law (Special Education Focus)

About the Opportunity
A highly respected, established law firm in Pittsburgh is seeking a seasoned Public School Law Attorney to join its premier Public Law Team. This is a strategic hire for a firm known for its sophisticated counsel to school districts, where you will serve as a solicitor and special counsel to boards and administrators.
This role is designed for a practitioner who enjoys high-level advocacy and has a deep passion for the legal frameworks governing public education.
The Role & Responsibilities
Special Education Advocacy: Provide expert guidance on IDEA and Section 504 compliance.
District Counsel: Advise school boards and administrators on complex governance, student rights, and discipline matters.
Labor & Employment: Navigate school employment law issues and support collective bargaining negotiations.
Strategic Planning: Offer legal support for construction, facility planning, and district financial solutions.
Board Engagement: Attend and present at evening school board meetings, serving as a trusted advisor in real-time.
Candidate Requirements
Experience: Preferred 7+ years in school law
Technical Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of IDEA and Section 504.
Licensure: Must be licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania.
Communication: Exceptional presentation skills and the ability to interface confidently with district leadership.
Presence: Ability to work strictly in-office and attend evening board meetings as required.
Compensation & Incentives
Our client offers a competitive and transparent compensation structure that rewards both productivity and business development:
Base Salary: $130,000-$150,000 (DOE), with a clear path for rapid increases based on performance and experience.
Billable Target: 1,800 hours.
