Commercial Litigation Associate Attorney

A well-established Chicago-area business law firm is seeking an Associate Attorney with approximately 2–4 years of commercial litigation and/or construction litigation experience.

This is an excellent opportunity for a developing litigator who wants meaningful responsibility, direct exposure to experienced attorneys, and the opportunity to work on a diverse mix of sophisticated business disputes.

The Practice

The litigation practice handles matters involving:

• Commercial and business disputes
• Breach of contract
• Construction litigation and construction defects
• Mechanic’s liens
• Real estate and property disputes
• Partnership and shareholder disputes
• Business torts
• Lease and contractual disputes
• Related complex civil litigation

The firm represents both plaintiffs and defendants and works with businesses, construction companies, property owners, developers, financial institutions, and other commercial clients.

Responsibilities

• Manage litigation matters with increasing independence
• Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and other substantive filings
• Handle written discovery
• Take and defend depositions
• Conduct legal research and develop case strategy
• Attend hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and court proceedings
• Communicate directly with clients and opposing counsel
• Assist with trial preparation and resolution strategy

Qualifications

• Approximately 2–4 years of litigation experience
• Commercial litigation and/or construction litigation experience strongly preferred
• Illinois Bar admission
• Strong legal research, writing, and advocacy skills
• Experience with discovery, depositions, and motion practice
• Ability to manage deadlines and matters independently
• Interest in developing a broad commercial litigation practice
