Job Description

An established Illinois litigation firm is seeking an attorney to join its casualty and insurance defense practice in the Joliet / Naperville area.

The position will involve a broad range of civil defense matters, including casualty and general liability litigation. While direct casualty experience is welcomed, the firm is open to attorneys with a solid insurance defense background who are interested in expanding their practice.

The Practice

Matters may include:

• Automobile and transportation liability
• Premises liability
• Construction-related claims
• Personal injury and wrongful death defense
• Property damage
• Product liability
• Other general liability and casualty matters

Responsibilities

• Manage an active litigation caseload
• Handle written discovery and motion practice
• Take and defend depositions
• Review medical records, expert reports, and damages documentation
• Attend hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and settlement conferences
• Communicate directly with insurance carriers, insureds, and other clients
• Negotiate settlements and assist with trial preparation
• Develop case strategy from initial evaluation through resolution

Qualifications

• J.D. and active Illinois Bar license
• Prior litigation experience
• Minimum 3 years of Insurance defense, casualty, or related civil litigation experience preferred
• Experience with discovery, depositions, motion practice, and case management
• Strong writing, communication, and organizational skills
• Ability to independently manage files while working collaboratively with other attorneys
