JOB DESCRIPTION

We are seeking an Associate to join the Municipal & School practice group in our Pittsburgh office. The Associate will work closely with Shareholders and Associates on the full spectrum of public sector clients. Some of the key anticipated responsibilities are listed below:

  • Perform thorough legal research, identifying necessary information to support senior counsel and clients.
  • Advise clients on the Right-to-Know Law, the Sunshine Act, the Ethics Act, and other laws that govern the conduct of public bodies.
  • Represent clients in zoning matters including variances, special exceptions, and conditional uses.
  • Support clients in code and ordinance drafting and enforcement.
  • Draft documents for collective bargaining, arbitration, and public sector labor practices.
  • Counsel clients on public bidding and contracting and prepare and analyze client agreements.
  • Provide legal assistance with real estate and eminent domain proceedings. 
  • Attend school district, municipal, and public board meetings, and hearings.
  • Conduct research and advise on local tax issues.
  • Prepare materials and appear in court on issues involving public sector clients.
  • Advise on First Amendment student rights and special education matters.
  • Advise clients on student and special education issues.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • License to practice law in Pennsylvania 
  • JD from an accredited law school 
  • 2-4 years’ experience with public sector clients 
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Solid writing and editing skills with a focus on developing thoughtful and persuasive messaging
  • Ability to work in and adapt to a fast-paced work environment
  • Strong organizational, time management, and project management mindset
  • Commitment to professionalism, cooperation, and teamwork
  • A strong drive to provide proactive, client-focused legal services

BENEFICIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with iManage document management system
  • Experience filing court documents, electronically preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in special education and public sector labor
