Job Title: Senior Estimator – Steel Fabrication
Position Summary:
The Senior Estimator is responsible for generating accurate quotations by estimating labor, materials, special processes, and documentation costs for complex technical projects. This role involves thorough review of scopes of work, codes, specifications, drawings, and other requirements, while coordinating with customers, vendors, subcontractors, and internal teams to deliver competitive and comprehensive bids within set timelines.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage customer expectations by clearly communicating capabilities, capacities, and lead times
Review and interpret scopes of work (SOW), customer requirements, specifications, codes, and standards
Prepare preliminary manufacturing routings, estimating labor, materials, subcontracted services, and other associated costs
Identify unclear or high-risk project elements and seek clarification from customers
Obtain accurate pricing for materials and subcontracted operations through vendor engagement or internal resources
Collaborate with production, project management, procurement, and quality control teams to align project requirements and schedules
Generate detailed cost estimates covering labor, materials, special processes, testing, inspection, and documentation
Prepare comprehensive quotation documents clearly outlining inclusions, substitutions, and exclusions
Submit all required documentation and proposals as per quotation requirements
Follow up on submitted quotations to assess probability of order conversion
Review awarded purchase orders to ensure alignment with quotations on schedule, scope, and funding
Build and maintain strong client relationships to foster repeat business and customer satisfaction
Support Business Development efforts in converting quotations into purchase orders
Provide customers with tailored information about products and services to meet their fabrication needs
Skills and Abilities:
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Self-motivated with strong attention to detail
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
Experience with Tekla PowerFab preferred
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or related field required
Minimum 10 years of experience in fabrication estimating
