Junior Estimator

The Junior Estimator will support the estimating team in preparing cost estimates for structural steel and vertical construction projects. This entry-level role is ideal for someone eager to learn the fundamentals of construction estimating while contributing to accurate and competitive bids. Preference will be given to candidates with exposure to structural steel, and the position offers hands-on training to build skills in a fast-paced environment. AutoCAD proficiency is highly preferred to assist with drawing analysis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in reviewing project plans, specifications, and drawings to support cost estimation for structural steel and vertical construction projects.
  • Perform basic material takeoffs and compile data on labor, equipment, and material costs under senior guidance.
  • Work closely with estimators, project managers, and vendors to gather pricing and scope details.
  • Help prepare bid documents and proposals, ensuring accuracy and completeness with oversight.
  • Identify discrepancies or missing information in project documentation and escalate as needed.
  • Maintain organized records of estimate data, supplier quotes, and project files.
  • Support the team in analyzing historical costs and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
  • Learn and apply industry standards and estimating best practices through on-the-job training.

Qualifications:

  • 0-3 years of experience in construction estimating or a related field (internships or coursework count).
  • Preference for any exposure to structural steel or vertical construction projects.
  • Highly preferred: Basic proficiency in AutoCAD for reviewing and interpreting drawings.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and willingness to learn estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam).
  • Strong attention to detail and a desire to develop analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication skills to collaborate with team members and ask questions as needed.
  • Eagerness to grow in the construction industry and take on increasing responsibility.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines in a supportive team setting.

Preferred:

  • Some knowledge of structural steel fabrication, erection, or vertical construction basics.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field (or pursuing one).
  • Interest in pursuing a long-term career in construction estimating.
