ABOUT THE FIRM We have been exclusively retained by a premier boutique law firm based in Seattle, Washington, to find an exceptional Employment Defense Attorney. POSITION OVERVIEW The ideal candidate will have 5 to 8 years of dedicated employment law experience, specifically on the management/defense side. You will step into an active, sophisticated caseload, handling a mix of employment litigation defense and proactive management counseling. This role requires an attorney who is ready to take a lead or primary second-chair role on matters, interface directly with key stakeholders, and deliver creative, strategic legal solutions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Litigation Defense: Represent employers in state and federal courts, as well as before administrative agencies (EEOC, Washington State Human Rights Commission, etc.) against claims of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wage and hour violations, and wrongful termination.
  • Motion Practice & Case Management: Draft pleadings, motions, summary judgment briefs, and comprehensive discovery requests/responses. Take ownership of discovery strategy and scheduling.
  • Depositions & Oral Advocacy: Conduct and defend depositions of plaintiffs, key witnesses, and corporate representatives. Argue motions confidently in court.
  • Proactive Counseling: Provide strategic counseling and preventive advice to corporate clients regarding workplace policies, handbooks, employee discipline, terminations, compliance with WA state employment laws, and risk mitigation.
  • Workplace Investigations: Conduct independent workplace investigations and draft definitive reports and recommendations.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience: 5 to 8 years of substantive experience in employment law, with a strong emphasis on defense/management representation.
  • Bar Admission: Active member in good standing with the Washington State Bar Association (WSBA).
  • Skills: Superb legal writing, analytical acumen, and sharp oral advocacy skills. A proven track record of handling depositions and drafting successful dispositive motions is required.
  • Mindset: A professional, client-focused demeanor with the capability to manage high-value corporate relationships confidently and autonomously.
