Tax Supervisor — Los Angeles, CA

We're looking for a seasoned Tax Supervisor ready to step into a high-impact leadership role at our Los Angeles practice. You'll oversee a team of seniors and associates, manage a diverse client portfolio, and serve as a key bridge between staff and firm leadership — with a clear line of sight to Manager.
Key functions
- Supervise and review the work of Tax Seniors and Associates across a portfolio of complex client engagements
- Review federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations, trusts, and estates
- Lead tax planning, structuring, and advisory conversations directly with clients and their key stakeholders
- Oversee engagement economics — budgeting, billing, realization, and timely project delivery
- Serve as the primary day-to-day client contact, proactively identifying tax saving opportunities and risk areas
- Manage and resolve IRS and state tax authority notices, audits, and correspondence
- Mentor and develop staff through real-time coaching, performance feedback, and training initiatives
- Partner with managers and partners on business development efforts, proposals, and expanding client relationships
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and advise clients on relevant tax law changes
Qualifications
- 5–7 years of progressive tax experience in public accounting required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field required; Master's in Taxation strongly preferred
- Active CPA license required
- Deep technical knowledge of federal and California tax law across multiple entity types
- Proven track record of managing client relationships and delivering high-quality work product
- Demonstrated experience supervising and developing tax staff at multiple levels
- Strong project management skills with the ability to juggle competing priorities and deadlines
- Proficiency in tax software such as CCH Axcess, GoSystem, or ProConnect
- Executive presence with polished communication skills — written, verbal, and client-facing
