2nd shift Quality Assurance Supervisor
Job Description:
The Quality Assurance Supervisor oversees the daily operations of the quality assurance team, ensuring that food products meet established safety, quality and regulatory standards. This role involves managing QA technicians, monitoring food safety and quality processes, and ensuring compliance with local, state and federal regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
o Supervise, mentor and train QA technicians, ensuring they adhere to established quality standards and follow bet practices in food safety.
o Oversee the inspection, testing, and monitoring of in-process products, and finished goods to ensure compliance with product specifications and quality standards.
o Ensure all quality assurance activities comply with industry regulations (eg: FDA, SQF, FSMA) and company policies. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant food safety regulations.
o Ensure the implementation and adherence to Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) systems. Monitor critical control points (Metal Detectors) and corrective actions to mitigate potential food safety hazards.
o Lead internal quality audits and inspections to ensure compliance with food safety, quality standards and company policies. Prepare for external audits (eg: by regulatory agencies or certification bodies).
o Investigate product quality issues, conduct root cause analysis, and coordinate corrective actions to resolve non-conformances in the production process.
o Ensure proper documentation of quality control results, corrective actions, inspections and audits. Generate reports for upper management and regulatory authorities as required.
o Identify areas for process improvements related to product quality, efficiency and waste reduction. Work cross-functionally with other departments (eg: production, R&D, and operations) to implement improvement initiatives.
o Conduct ongoing training for the quality team on food safety, quality assurance procedures and new regulations. Ensure the team is well-versed in standard operating procedures (SOPs) and good manufacturing practices (GMPs).
Skills & Qualifications:
o Minimally, a high school diploma is required. A bacherlor’s degree in food science, food technology, microbiology, chemistry or a related field is preferred.
o 3-5 years’ experience in quality assurance within the food manufacturing industry, with at least 1-2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
o In-depth knowledge of food safety regulations, including FDA, SQF, FSMA, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
o Strong ability to manage, motivate and develop a team. Ability to provide guidance and direction while ensuring team accountability and performance.
o Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to identify quality issues, root causes and implement effective corrective actions.
o Ability to identify even small deviations from product specifications and ensure corrective actions are taken.
o Excellent verbal and written communication skill, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and report to senior management.
o Familiarity with quality control testing methods, laboratory equipment and food safety management software.
