Assistant Electrical Project Manager
Position Overview
A well-established electrical contractor is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to join their team in the Greater Charlotte, NC area. The company specializes primarily in industrial (not heavy) electrical projects, along with select commercial work, and is looking for a motivated construction professional who wants to build a long-term career in electrical project management.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with electrical construction experience who is ready to take the next step in their career. The Assistant Project Manager will work closely with Project Managers, field leadership, customers, vendors, and subcontractors to help ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and profitably.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist Project Managers with the day-to-day management of electrical construction projects from award through completion.
- Support project planning, scheduling, budgeting, procurement, and overall project coordination.
- Review plans, specifications, scopes of work, and other project documents to identify potential issues and opportunities.
- Assist with material procurement, vendor coordination, and tracking of equipment and material deliveries.
- Work closely with field personnel to ensure project requirements, schedules, and customer expectations are being met.
- Communicate with general contractors, customers, vendors, subcontractors, and internal team members.
- Assist with project documentation, including RFIs, submittals, change orders, purchase orders, and closeout documentation.
- Help track project costs, labor, materials, and commitments to support project profitability.
- Participate in project meetings and provide updates regarding project progress, scheduling, and outstanding items.
- Assist with change order development, pricing, and tracking.
- Review project schedules and help identify potential delays or conflicts.
- Coordinate with estimating and operations teams to ensure a smooth transition from estimating to project execution.
- Visit project sites as needed to support field teams and gain firsthand knowledge of project progress and challenges.
- Assist with project closeout and ensure required documentation is completed.
- Develop strong working relationships with customers, vendors, field employees, and project partners.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in electrical construction, project coordination, project management, estimating, or a related construction role.
- Working knowledge of commercial and/or industrial electrical construction.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, and construction documents.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and follow-through.
- Ability to work effectively with both field and office personnel.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Outlook.
- Experience with construction/project management software is a plus.
- Electrical estimating experience is a plus.
- An electrical construction background or field experience is strongly preferred.
