Senior Project Manager – Construction Job Description Position Summary
The Senior Project Manager (SPM) is responsible for the overall planning, coordination, and execution of construction projects from preconstruction through closeout. This role ensures projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards while leading project teams and maintaining strong client relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all phases of construction projects, including preconstruction, estimating support, procurement, construction, and closeout
- Manage project budgets, cost controls, forecasting, and financial reporting
- Develop, monitor, and maintain detailed project schedules
- Oversee subcontractor bidding, scope alignment, and contract negotiations
- Serve as the primary point of contact for owners, architects, engineers, and stakeholders
- Lead OAC (Owner-Architect-Contractor) meetings and provide executive-level reporting
- Identify project risks and implement mitigation strategies
- Review and approve RFIs, submittals, change orders, and pay applications
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, building codes, and company standards
- Coordinate with Superintendents to align field operations with project goals
- Mentor and supervise Project Managers, Assistant PMs, and Project Engineers
- Drive quality control and ensure project specifications are met
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field (preferred)
- 8–15+ years of experience in construction project management
- Proven experience managing large-scale projects (typically $20M–$100M+)
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and delivery methods (GC/CM, Design-Build, etc.)
- Experience in commercial, multifamily, industrial, or mixed-use construction
- Proficiency in construction management software (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, MS Project, Primavera P6)
