Transportation Dispatcher/Operations Coordinator

Location: Northern New Jersey Compensation: $75,000 - $100,000 annually, based on experience

About this Opportunity

A growing transportation and specialized logistics company is seeking an experienced Transportation Operations Coordinator to oversee daily fleet scheduling, customer service, and load planning activities. This role is critical in ensuring freight is moved safely, efficiently, and profitably while maintaining exceptional service levels for customers and drivers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate daily movement of trucks, drivers, and equipment to meet customer delivery and pickup commitments.
  • Develop transportation plans that maximize equipment utilization and operational efficiency.
  • Negotiate freight rates and identify cost-effective transportation solutions.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with drivers, customers, vendors, and operations personnel regarding shipment status and service requirements.
  • Monitor fleet activity, route performance, and equipment availability throughout the day.
  • Respond to service issues, shipment delays, and customer concerns in a professional and timely manner.
  • Create daily dispatch schedules and assist with forecasting equipment and staffing needs.
  • Track load information, operational records, service data, and transportation documentation.
  • Ensure all transportation activities comply with company policies and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with management to support operational goals and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of transportation, trucking, or dispatch experience.
  • Strong understanding of DOT regulations and transportation compliance requirements.
  • Experience coordinating truckload, specialized transportation, heavy haul, oversized loads, or rigging projects is highly desirable.
  • Proven ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to work in an office environment for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Comfortable handling time-sensitive situations and communicating effectively under pressure.
  • Willingness to be available for occasional after-hours operational support when needed.
