Job Description

Commercial Construction Superintendent – Retail Tenant Improvements

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Superintendent to join our growing construction team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background managing commercial tenant improvement projects and a proven ability to deliver high-quality work safely, on schedule, and within budget. This position will oversee field operations for retail, banking, restaurant, and fast-food construction projects while serving as the primary on-site leader and client representative.

Key Responsibilities

Project Planning & Scheduling

  • Develop, maintain, and distribute weekly three-week look-ahead schedules.
  • Monitor project progress and identify potential schedule impacts.
  • Coordinate labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors to maintain project milestones.
  • Ensure projects are completed on time and according to contract requirements.

Field Operations Management

  • Direct all day-to-day field activities from project start through closeout.
  • Maintain jobsite organization, cleanliness, and operational efficiency.
  • Coordinate inspections, testing, and occupancy requirements with local authorities and agencies.
  • Manage project logistics and minimize disruption to surrounding businesses, tenants, and communities.

Client & Team Coordination

  • Partner closely with Project Managers to achieve project goals and financial objectives.
  • Serve as the primary field contact for owners, architects, engineers, inspectors, and subcontractors.
  • Conduct regular jobsite meetings and communicate project expectations clearly.
  • Foster a collaborative and solutions-oriented work environment.

Safety Leadership

  • Promote and maintain a culture of safety throughout all phases of construction.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety standards.
  • Conduct safety meetings, jobsite inspections, and corrective action plans when necessary.
  • Maintain an injury-free work environment through proactive safety management.

Subcontractor Management

  • Coordinate subcontractor schedules, manpower, and workflow.
  • Monitor quality, productivity, and compliance with project specifications.
  • Resolve field conflicts and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Ensure all work is completed according to plans, specifications, and quality standards.

Quality Control & Problem Resolution

  • Perform ongoing quality inspections and manage punch list completion.
  • Identify project challenges proactively and implement effective solutions.
  • Minimize schedule delays and budget impacts through strong field leadership.
  • Ensure successful project turnover and client satisfaction.

Qualifications

Required

  • 3–5+ years of experience as a Superintendent on commercial tenant improvement projects.
  • Experience managing retail, restaurant, banking, or other commercial interior renovation projects.
  • Demonstrated success overseeing projects valued at $500,000 or greater.
  • OSHA 30 Certification.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and schedules.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial construction means and methods.

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience with occupied renovations and fast-track project delivery.
  • Proficiency with Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and related construction software.
