We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Surgical Technologist to join a collaborative surgical services team. This role is critical in supporting surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care throughout the perioperative process.

Position Summary

The Surgical Technologist is responsible for preparing and maintaining the sterile field, assisting surgeons during operative procedures, and ensuring surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment are available and functioning properly. The Surgical Technologist works closely with the surgical team to promote patient safety, maintain aseptic technique, and support positive surgical outcomes.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Prepare operating rooms for surgical procedures by gathering supplies, instruments, and equipment.
  • Establish and maintain a sterile field throughout surgical procedures.
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and surgical team during procedures.
  • Pass instruments, sutures, and supplies to surgeons and assistants.
  • Perform instrument, sponge, and needle counts according to established policies and procedures.
  • Assist with patient positioning, preparation, and draping.
  • Ensure proper handling, care, and sterilization of surgical instruments and equipment.
  • Maintain accurate documentation related to surgical procedures and supplies.
  • Assist with specimen collection, labeling, and transport according to policy.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory levels of surgical supplies.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and departmental activities.
  • Adhere to infection prevention, patient safety, and regulatory standards at all times.

Qualifications

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program required.

Experience

  • Previous surgical technologist experience preferred.
  • Experience in acute care or hospital-based surgical services preferred.

Certification

  • Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification preferred or required based on state regulations and facility requirements.
  • Certification through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) preferred.

Additional Requirements

  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required within 30 days of employment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of sterile technique, surgical instrumentation, and operating room procedures.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.
