Our client is seeking a Construction Project Manager in South Central SD
The Project Manager will oversee the planning, scheduling, budgeting, and execution of construction projects, ensuring that projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and at a high standard of quality. This position plays a key role in establishing disciplined systems and processes during the early growth phase of the organization and contributes to the long-term goal of transforming housing and construction project delivery in the community.
Core Responsibilities
Project Planning & Execution
- Plan, direct, and manage assigned residential construction projects from pre-construction through completion.
- Conduct constructability reviews and provide practical recommendations to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
- Monitor project progress to ensure work is completed safely, on schedule, and within budget parameters.
- Provide leadership in the creation of systems and structures for a growing construction enterprise.
Budget & Financial Oversight
- Develop and manage project budgets, forecasts, and cost tracking.
- Source, solicit, and evaluate subcontractor bids to ensure competitive and realistic pricing; for self-performed scopes, conduct quantity take-offs and develop internal bid estimates.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliers to support reliable project execution.
- Clearly define scopes of work for both subcontracted and self-performed activities, ensuring alignment between pricing and project requirements.
- Review and evaluate change orders and assess impacts to budget and schedule.
- Provide regular reporting on project performance, cost variances, and schedule status to the General Manager.
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, safety standards, environmental requirements, and contract terms.
- Maintain high standards of workmanship and quality control across all project scopes.
- Identify risks and proactively develop mitigation strategies.
Coordination & Communication
- Serve as the primary point of coordination among field crews, subcontractors, consultants, local infrastructure and utility representatives, and Owner’s Representatives.
- Lead project meetings and maintain strong communication with stakeholders.
- Contribute to building collaborative relationships within the housing and construction ecosystem, and other initiatives.
Startup & Process Development
- Assist in developing and refining project management systems appropriate for a growing, lean construction enterprise.
- Support crew recruitment efforts and the expansion of the entities self-performance capacity across additional residential construction scopes.
- Support continuous improvement in field operations and construction delivery systems.
Community & Workforce Impact
- Promote safe job sites and positive team culture.
- Support workforce development efforts and promote career growth opportunities on project teams.
- Contribute to delivering high-quality, affordable homes that positively impact the community.
Qualifications:
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Community Development, Housing Development, or related field preferred.
- 3–7 years of experience managing residential or commercial construction projects.
- Experience working with panelized, modular, or prefabricated systems preferred but not required.
- Experience working in Tribal Nations, rural communities, or mission-driven organizations preferred.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and evidence of insurability.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and residential building practices.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
- Proficiency in project scheduling and budgeting tools (MS Project or similar).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Practical problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively in a growing organization.
