Field Engineer – Structural Steel Erection & Fabrication

A rapidly growing structural steel erector and fabricator is seeking an experienced Field Engineer to join its team in the greater Birmingham, AL area. The company has doubled in size over the past five years and continues to experience significant growth, creating an excellent opportunity for an engineer looking to take on a hands-on role with a growing organization.

The Field Engineer will travel throughout the Southeast United States to visit active jobsites, monitor project progress, verify field conditions, and identify repairs or corrections needed to keep projects moving efficiently. This is a highly visible position that will work closely with project managers, field crews, and customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Travel to structural steel jobsites throughout the Southeast, approximately 75% of the time.

  • Monitor project progress, installation quality, and field conditions.

  • Identify structural steel installation issues, deficiencies, repairs, and required corrections.

  • Document field conditions and communicate findings to project management and field leadership.

  • Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, erectors, and customers to resolve field issues.

  • Review drawings, project documents, and field conditions to identify discrepancies.

  • Utilize Procore, Tekla, and Trimble to document, track, and communicate project information.

  • Assist with quality control and ensure work is completed according to project requirements.

  • Provide timely reporting and follow-up on repairs and corrective work.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering required.

  • Minimum 2 years of experience with structural steel erection and/or fabrication.

  • Proficiency with Procore, Tekla, and Trimble required.

  • Strong ability to read and interpret structural drawings and project documents.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify field issues and deficiencies.

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability and willingness to travel approximately 75% throughout the Southeast.

  • Self-motivated and comfortable working independently in the field.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • $65,000 – $80,000 DOE

  • Travel expenses covered
