Position Summary

The Healthcare Construction Superintendent is responsible for the overall field supervision, coordination, safety, quality control, and schedule management of healthcare construction projects. Projects may include hospitals, medical office buildings, surgical centers, laboratories, behavioral health facilities, and occupied healthcare renovations. The Superintendent ensures all work is completed in accordance with project specifications, California HCAI (formerly OSHPD) requirements, infection control standards, and applicable building codes.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Manage all day-to-day field operations for healthcare construction projects.
  • Coordinate and supervise subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, and field personnel.
  • Develop, maintain, and enforce project schedules to ensure timely completion.
  • Ensure compliance with California HCAI/OSHPD regulations, healthcare codes, and project specifications.
  • Coordinate inspections with the Inspector of Record (IOR), HCAI representatives, and local authorities.
  • Implement and enforce Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) procedures, containment protocols, and interim life safety measures.
  • Lead project safety programs and maintain OSHA compliance.
  • Conduct daily jobsite meetings, safety meetings, and subcontractor coordination meetings.
  • Monitor quality control and ensure all work meets contract documents and healthcare facility standards.
  • Review drawings, specifications, RFIs, submittals, and construction documents for field execution.
  • Manage site logistics, material deliveries, equipment utilization, and workforce planning.
  • Track project progress and prepare daily reports, look-ahead schedules, and punch lists.
  • Coordinate project turnover, commissioning, closeout documentation, and owner training.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with owners, architects, engineers, healthcare staff, and project stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of Superintendent experience in commercial construction.
  • 3+ years of healthcare construction experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of California HCAI/OSHPD requirements and healthcare construction practices.
  • Experience managing occupied hospital renovations and infection-control-sensitive environments.
  • Proficiency with scheduling software and construction management platforms such as Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, or Primavera P6.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • OSHA 30 certification preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as required.
