Position Overview

A well-established Oakland law firm is seeking an experienced Senior Civil Litigation Attorney with 8+ years of litigation experience to join its growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney who is comfortable handling complex matters, taking ownership of cases, and working directly with clients and opposing counsel.

The firm handles a diverse civil litigation practice, including business litigation, toxic torts, employment law, product liability, and medical malpractice. The ideal candidate will bring strong analytical, writing, and courtroom skills and have the ability to manage matters from inception through resolution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage complex civil litigation matters from initial case evaluation through trial or resolution
  • Develop case strategy and provide strategic legal advice to clients
  • Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, and other legal documents
  • Take and defend depositions
  • Conduct legal research and analyze complex legal issues
  • Handle discovery, including written discovery and document review
  • Appear in court, hearings, conferences, and other proceedings
  • Negotiate with opposing counsel and participate in mediation and settlement discussions
  • Work closely with clients and provide regular case updates
  • Collaborate with other attorneys and legal professionals on complex matters
  • Assist with trial preparation and, when appropriate, take matters through trial

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of civil litigation experience
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: business litigation, toxic torts, employment law, product liability, or medical malpractice
  • Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and oral advocacy skills
  • Experience managing cases independently and handling matters through various stages of litigation
  • Deposition and courtroom experience strongly preferred
  • Excellent judgment, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple complex matters and deadlines
  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school preferred
  • Active California Bar license in good standing
