Job Description

Assistant to the General Manager – Nursery and Greenhouse Operations

We are looking for a versatile, hands-on professional to join our nursery and greenhouse operation as an Assistant to the General Manager. This is a unique opportunity for someone who enjoys working in both an office environment and an active horticultural/nursery setting.

The right person will be comfortable handling administrative responsibilities while also being willing to roll up their sleeves and jump in to help with nursery operations when needed. This role is ideal for someone with a background in nursery operations, horticulture, agriculture, or plant production who also has strong organizational and office skills.

You will work closely with the General Manager and have exposure to many areas of the business, making this a great opportunity for someone who wants to grow their career and take on increasing responsibility over time.

What You'll Do

Office & Administrative Responsibilities

  • Assist the General Manager with day-to-day administrative and operational needs
  • Support HR-related duties, employee records, onboarding, and other personnel functions
  • Handle invoicing, data entry, paperwork, and general office responsibilities
  • Assist with scheduling, record keeping, reporting, and other administrative tasks
  • Communicate with employees, vendors, customers, and other business partners
  • Help keep office processes organized and running efficiently

Nursery & Operations Support

  • Step into the nursery and assist with operations as needed
  • Support plant production, inventory, organization, and general nursery activities
  • Work alongside nursery employees and management to help keep operations moving
  • Assist with projects, problem-solving, and operational needs as they arise
  • Be willing to work in hot, humid, and physically active conditions, particularly during busy periods
  • Learn and understand the day-to-day operations of the nursery

What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate is someone who can comfortably move between an office setting and the nursery floor.

  • Previous experience in a nursery, horticulture, agriculture, greenhouse, landscaping, or related industry is highly preferred
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills
  • Comfortable with invoicing, paperwork, data entry, and general office functions
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Comfortable working with employees and assisting with HR-related responsibilities
  • Proficient with computers and Microsoft Office or similar software
  • Self-motivated, dependable, and able to work independently
  • Willing to jump in and help wherever needed
  • Comfortable working outdoors or in hot and humid nursery conditions
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities
  • A team-oriented attitude and willingness to learn

Why This Role?

This isn’t a position where you’ll be sitting behind a desk all day. It’s an opportunity to become an important part of the operation and develop a well-rounded understanding of both the business and nursery sides of the company.

For the right person, there is significant opportunity for advancement. As you learn the operation and demonstrate your abilities, you can take on additional responsibilities and grow into a larger leadership or management role.

If you have both office skills and a passion for horticulture—and you’re the kind of person who isn’t afraid to get your hands dirty—we’d like to hear from you. Apply by submitting a current resume. For questions contact Kim Kavanaugh at 440-367-6025 or by email at kim.kavanaugh @gogpac.com
