Estimator – Civil / Sitework Construction

About the Opportunity

Our client is a well-established civil construction contractor specializing in site development, underground utilities, mass grading, excavation, and public works projects. Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Estimator to join their team and play a key role in pursuing and securing new work.

This is a full-time position offering long-term stability, strong leadership support, and opportunities for professional growth within a respected construction organization.


Position Overview

The Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive bids for a variety of civil construction projects, including site development, underground utility installation, earthwork, grading, excavation, and public infrastructure improvements. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, experience reviewing plans and specifications, and the ability to work collaboratively with operations and project management teams.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates and bid proposals for civil construction projects.
  • Review project plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, and contract documents.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs for earthwork, utilities, paving, concrete, and site development scopes.
  • Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier pricing.
  • Analyze project risks, production rates, and overall project costs.
  • Develop bid summaries and assist with final bid reviews.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and project handoff meetings.
  • Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, and company leadership during the estimating process.
  • Maintain accurate estimating records and historical cost data.
  • Support value engineering efforts and alternative construction approaches when applicable.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of estimating experience within civil construction.
  • Experience estimating underground utilities, mass grading, excavation, site development, and public works projects.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Experience performing quantity takeoffs and developing detailed project budgets.
  • Knowledge of production rates, means and methods, and civil construction operations.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Experience with HeavyBid, Bluebeam, AGTEK, Bid2Win, or similar estimating software is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with operations and project teams.
